I don't remember where I heard it (very possibly from you), but isn't there something in IL election law that says if a parties candidate makes it on the ballot for Governor, then that parties candidates don't have to go through the petition process for county and local elections?

If we get on the ballot with a FULL statewide slate (governor, comptroller, lt. gov, sec state, etc etc) and then at least one candidate on that slate gets 5% of the vote then we are a statewide established party for ALL lesser offices. So we would have ballot access and primaries for EVERYTHING (except maybe President and maybe Senator and MAYBE US Rep...I'm not sure about the federal offices).

No, the law is a lot more complicated and stupid than that.

If we get a full statewide slate on the ballot in 2006 and...

our candidate for GOVERNOR gets 5%, we are established EVERYWHERE.

our candidate for SOME OTHER STATEWISE OFFICE gets 5%, we are established "at the state level" only.

In either instance, that would include President, and the former instance would include Congress.

Also, you better believe we will shove the letter of the law down county clerk's throats everywhere. What we didn't "get away with" in Champaign County in 2004 we "got away with" in Union County, and I'm planning on "getting away with" it in McLean County in 2006...
