02:09 pm - Volunteer for Zach this Saturday!
This post is chalk full of campaign updates so keep reading!
- Last Week
Last weekend with the help of John-Paul, Dawn, Arun, Jane, Nick, Al, and Andrew we were able to lit drop to the northern half of District 9. Over 2,000 fliers were delivered in one day!
- Unity March
This Saturday we need to keep up this great momentum. Early in the morning, I'll be participating in the Unity March which gathers at 9am in Douglass and Scott parks. I'll be speaking at the rally about the Citizen's Police Review Board. I hope folks can make it!
- Volunteering This Saturday
At Noon on Saturday, volunteers will gather at my house (107 W. Washington) for another day of door-to-door. We'll break up into 2 groups.
One group will visit registered voters in the area that we lit dropped last week. This group will actually knock on doors and talk to folks. We'll be trying to assess where our support is, who wants yard signs, and who has questions.
The other group will continue the lit drops into Southeast Urbana (we made it down to Florida last week).
Free Pizza, Beer, and Soda/Pop will be available for all volunteers!
We have 250 yard signs! Please start thinking about friends and neighbors in District 9 who might want a yard sign.
We also have more buttons now, so any volunteers who haven't gotten buttons yet can get them on Saturday.
- Financial Update
Thank you all for your generous contributions of time and money (over $1000 raised) which have allowed us to purchase 250 yard signs and distribute 3000 pieces of literature. There are ongoing costs (we need to produce more lit, we'd like to purchase some advertising) to the campain and we're out of cash. So if you can spare any additional contribution to the campaign or you know anyone who can, please visit votezach.org to donate online via paypal (you do not need to be a paypal member to send money) or send a check made out to "Friends of Zach Miller" to 107 W. Washington, Urbana, IL 61801. Thank you!
- Upcoming Benefit Parties
Also mark your calendars, October 30th from 7pm-midnight, I'll be having a party at my house to celebrate our campaigns. Several different acoustic music performers (so far Dale C. Miller, Rory Miller, Joni Laurence have all confirmed and a few more have been invited but haven't confirmed yet) will be there to provide us some great tunes, food and drinks will be available, candidates will give speeches, and we'll have a generally fun time.
There will be a benefit rock and hiphop show at the Cowboy Monkey this Sunday, October 24th. 100% of the door will go to support the three Green Party county board campaigns.
David Cobb, the Green Party's candidate for President who is running a write-in campaign in Illinois, will be speaking on Monday, October 25th at 8:30pm at Allen Hall (1005 W. Gregory).
There will be a benefit rock show at the Iron Post on Friday, the 29th, at the Iron Post in Urbana. 100% of the door will go to support the three Green Party county board campaigns.
- Campaign Updates
Wednesday's News-Gazette candidate profile features all 3 candidates from District 9. Check it out if you missed it.
I interviewed with the News-Gazette Editorial Board on Thursday evening and I think I rocked the interview. I look forward to seeing who ends up getting their endorsement. All three candidates spoke of the need to end the partisan bickering on the council, but I think I made the strong case that ONLY someone from outside of the two parties can act as a fair mediator between the bickering Dems and Repubs.
I really could use someone to volunteer as campaign manager for the last 2 weeks of the election. A lot of people have been helping to collectively manage this campaign since we began in March but at this final crunch time it would be great to have a volunteer who can coordinate the other volunteers so that I can spend all my time going door to door.
