03:12 pm - To all my show booking friends.
Got any cool leads for awesome artists for us?
I just sent out this letter to a ton of artists and agents. We'll see who bites.
The UC-IMC is Seeking performers for festivals on April 17st, May 1st, and July 4th.
The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (UC-IMC, a 501c3 charitable non-profit) is throwing it's second IMCfest fundraiser on April 17th.
We would love it if you (or an artist you represent) could donate a 30-45 minute performance to this festival. If you can please let me know and let me know what sorts of time constraints you will have. In some cases we may be able to pay for gas money, provide a meal, and find sleeping arrangements for out of town artists, so let me know if you are interested in that.
This IMCfest will be all day on Saturday, April 17th at the spacious Canopy Club (capacity is near 1000). There will be two stages with music alternating between them throughout the day (1pm-1am). This will be part of the annual Champaign-Urbana-wide Boneyard Arts Festival.
The festival will feature many diverse styles of music. If you have multiple projects or represent multiple artists please let us know which is/are interested in performing.
We are going to compile a list of interested bands this week and make our booking decisions next week. Because we anticipate more interest than we'll be able to accommodate at the festival we may not be able to book all the bands.
Last August, IMCfest featured 16 bands, 2 feature films, and a zine reading in a 12 hour festival on 2 stages at the Canopy Club. Hundreds of people attended and the IMC raised $1600 towards it's capital campaign and the improvement of our PA system. We also used some of the money raised to sponsor an All Ages music festival which was entirely booked and coordinated by local teens. Our capital campaign now stands at over $60,000 and we are poised to begin shopping for a new permanent home for the IMC at the end of April. Our new building will allow us to once again have our own all ages performance venue.
There is also another IMC fundraiser event happening on May 1st at the University YMCA. This will feature one stage and 5-6 bands in an all ages venue with a capacity of 200. Please let us know if you are available for either April 17th or May 1st. Thanks!
There is also an inkling of a possibility of a July 4th outdoor festival sponsored by the IMC in downtown Urbana. Please let us know if you would be interested in donating a performance to such an event if it comes together.
If you are interested in playing a fundraiser/benefit show for the UC-IMC but are unavailable for any of these dates, please let me know.
Here is information about last August's IMCfest
We are focusing on booking primarily fundraising shows until we have re-established our own venue space. Our venue space will (as it did in the past) book local and nationally touring artists in a non-smoking, all ages, byob, downtown venue space with an excellent sound system. Here is information about our venue getting shut down and our Capital Campaign.
