Apparently, I've been misusing and misinterpretting the word "agog".

I always thought it meant "very shocked" or "amazingly dismayed" but instead it means "very excited". Kind of the exact opposite meaning!

Strange, Roget's Interactive Thesaurus lists agog as also being a synonym of such words as "aghast" and "bewildered":

I may be way off here, but I personally interpret the "very excited" definition to also indeed include the other "agog" usages (and always have used agog that way), if defining excite as in causing a reaction not excite as in great enthusiasm/happiness.

That probably wasn't coherent (sorry), but my point is in there somewhere.

I've always thought of agog as meaning "in shock" too.

Yah a bunch of other people I've talked to are backing me up in my understanding of the usage.

The dictionary is clearly confused.

Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is the
"Voice of Authority"! It says so at the top of the
dust jacket in big bold letters.

*Sigh* I'm surrounded by cretins and infidels.

i always thought it was just an over-exaggerated emotion. no real FEELING but more of 20 feelings at once?

I am agog. I realized from your website you are a Paul Wellstone Democrat. A true liberal with a black spot and activism in his veins.

Thank you.

PS If you really want people to show up rent to small of a place and post "limited seating"-works every time.
