Often when I invite new people to LJ I tell them all the other members of their particular social circle that I know about as having LJ accounts. I always have to recreate this list. So here's that info for the people on my friends list for me to refer back to when I need to. If there are new LJers that I should probably friend given these groups that I don't have listed here let me know.

IMSAns - aces219, aletheis, arun251, boannan, cadencerain, celaenos_aerie, deaconobvious, dlkinney, fellow_traveler, ke_jia, mfeltes83, nomadwolf, revjack, ryanfirewitch, samwize, sarpo, skywind8, stacy_bird, uss_hairball, xymboulos (MetaIMSAns - ectophylla, herbivorous, jasunshine, kitten_ms, kniedzw, the_sween, zsquirrelboy)

Chambanians - angel_legna, assclouds, blutende_narbe, bookoflies, citruslike, dirty_llama, domystic, halbonesyjr, jane837, juvenilia, kateorama, kricker, livingluster, lost_not_forgot, mollisol, mrscake, mythworker, punkgrrl921, rawley69, sdm, simplepleasure, starryeyedeals, szasz, weirdkarma

Duck-O-Sphere - bdar, boldmoves, bolo, duck2ducks, earnbrand, hannibalv, hssst, spillshercoffee, kingvermin, leukorodon, mathuaerknedam, nyxdae, samadore, studentothewind, stuffedsheep29, superlemming13, swank76 (Babbeling Waucondanauts - desert_fox, dsjones, hwy61, rolandkale, surrealmonk)

Groogrooites - dbt, dygel, meekay, 2515049 (MetaGroogrooites - galactose)

Cassiopians - cassiopia, digitaldurga, fujerica

So there you have it. I've met most of my friends either through duck2ducks, my home town high school, IMSA, my college geek peer group, or the IMC (almost all those Chambanians are people I've met because of the IMC in one way or another). Social networking in action.

I was amused by two mis-perceptions when first reading this post:
  1. I read "MetaIMSAns" as "MetalIMSAns," and I couldn't see what tungsten and I had in common, and
  2. "Spherical Friends" seemed to imply that I was far more overweight than I think I actually am. :)
Interesting list, though. I'll have to browse at some point and try to map out my LJ social structure some soon as well.

1. I read it as MetalIMSAns, but I figured I would've known about some of them by now... (at least as metalheads...)

You should bookmark this entry by using the "Memories" function of LJ (the heart icon that appears in a given entry), and then you can easily pull up and edit this entry any time you need to.

What a good idea! I know about but never remember to use that feature.

I should really go through and do useful memory markings of lots of my old posts someday.

I've been doing that occasionally, month by month. (It's in my LJ To-Do list.) Check out my Memories section to see what I've been doing with it.

Heh. Yes I was.

That dropped off considerably when the political climate beat me down too much, too often.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has a post just so I could keep track of all the different social circles. :P Mine's a roaming private one, though, since I keep track of who's in which Friends groups and what colors I assign them on my Friends page. (Yes, there's a method to my madness!) When the entry is about to fall off the first page of my journal, I usually just redate the entry, but I also like ducks2ducks's suggestion of using the memory function!

That is some seriously advanced madness!

I don't use colors for my friends, perhaps I should.

Well I went into the color setting page and didn't like the interface and felt daunted by the task of choosing appropriate and useful colors for dozens of friends and I just stopped.

I also found out that (at least in my layout) the colors only show up around the username/icon not for the whole post. I'd have liked for it to be around the whole post (but not so much so that I'm going to bother making a custom style).

Coloring the world!

(Link)
No, you have WAY too many friends! I started mine a while ago when I was still using a different layout for my Friends page, which takes advantage of the colors a little better. If you look closely, all the IMSA people have the navy blue font with the light gray background, all the LU people have the white font with the medium blue background (yes, the school colors were blue and white), and the on-line friends are a red font with a dark brown background. My version of the MetaIMSAns have the midnight blue font with the dark gray background and the MetaLUers have a powder blue font with a bright blue background. Yes, I put WAAAAAAAY too much thought into piddly things sometimes. It's a curse that I've had to live with my entire life! ;P

d00d, i'm like in three of those groups. We initially met impersonally through IMSA, but we really got to know each other in #groogroo. We met in person the most while i was in the duck-o-sphere.

do i get a prize? do i get to see Zach soon? What? sushi?

It's true! Now you just need to join the IMC and take some classes at Wauconda High School and you'll basically be me. :)

I'm going to try hard to NOT travel out of Chambana this month. You should come visit! But if not, I'm sure I'll be up in Feb and I'll be sure to schedule a visit.

a random interconnection thought/question

meekay: the name reminds me of someone who worked for the Beckman Audio Group / CoRaven project at the same time I did, back in 1999. Is this the same person? I could be completely insance.

So fine, you convinced me to start one of these thingies. Just trying to make the IMSA/MetaIMSA list the longest one. (And I totally read it as "Metal" also.)

Hi Zach. This is Libby -- last time I saw you was at the singer-songwriter concert in Chicago. Please put me on the IMSAn list too! :)

Hm I'm missing off your sphere lists.

I was a lightweight groogroo in addition to a serious imsan. :D

Dunno how you got missed. You're on there now. I go by where I first met a person so you're on the IMSA list.

You can just blame earnbrand. It's all his fault. He was the one who pointed me in your direction, even if we haven't *officially* met yet. *grin*
