Oh I forgot to mention. I learned over the weekend from Genuine West Coast People that "hella" is not something that anyone over there says anymore.

Just when it was starting to be so common here in the midwest.

We're so unhip here in the flyover.

Of course, this means I can stop feeling self conscious and just use the word ALL THE TIME.
I told my sister that maybe I will take the role of hip lingo preservationist. I will always use words exactly when they are not hip, to keep them alive, then when people need something retro stuff will be floating there in the culture among the lame preservationists. :)

I picked up "hecka" from Kate, who of course got it in San Francisco.

"Hoopdy" and "Monty" ("good" and "bad", respectively) seem never to have made it off the West Coast either.

I've gathered that this is what people from the entertainment industry call the midwest because they're always going from coast to coast and they never stop in the midwest.

Is "all sorts of" a dialect thing? I thought everyone used that phrase.

People say "all sorts of things", but I say things like "that's all sorts of good". I don't hear other folks say that...

I still remember getting 'told off' by a kid in the school yard when I was 11 for saying something was "mega" boring, which was apparently, like, a week past being hip or something...

Haha! I say "mega" all the time.

Intensifiers are so fucking useful and cool.

In an effort to be more Hispanic, I'm trying to work in "dog" into my speech.

"No way, dog!" or "Damn, ese!"

Something along those lines.

"Hella?" that's just so fin.
