I just installed Gallery on my web server and loaded all my old and new digital photos into it. I haven't put in captions for most things yet so it's just a bunch of simple thumbnail pages but one cool thing is that you can add comments to images (though I don't think I get notified when you do leave comments so they're like secret Zen comments).

The Oregon Coast

UP Michigan

Yellowstone

You know, you ought to sign up for an account at deviantART and post these. You'll get more exposure to them, I think.

Ehn, they're just snapshots, nothing particularly deviant about them. Not looking for exposure so much as sharing my vacation with my friends.

Well, the term 'deviant' is meant to refer to one's desktop - materials to enable one to deviate from the bland default, and more than just in reference to wallpaper...
But what you posted aren't really snapshots. They've got some decent artistic merit to them. You say 'snapshot' to me, and I think, "scene with people awkardly inserted." Granted, some of what you have may fit that description, but what you posted here does not.

Ah I see. I suppose some of this might be decent as wallpaper type art.

Thanks for the tip.

Beautiful!

Did you find that rope spiral when you got to that beach?

Nope, I made it. I'm a bit obsessed with that shape/symbol due to my obsession with a certain author.

Beautiful photography! I especially love the tidepools, sand cliffs, and the bull kelp spiral. They make me want to ignore my chores today and drive over to Cannon Beach or Tillamook! Where in Oregon were they taken?

On the coast, west of Eugene, near (but not at) some state park. I didn't drive so I don't know exactly where. I know we hiked down the "Hobbit Trail" to get there though. That was awesome.

A web search reveals this information (I guess it is near Florence):

The Hobbit Trail

This sounds like an interesting hike. Just north of Devil's Elbow State Park is Carl G. Washburne State Park. Near its entrance is a small parking lot and a trailhead which may or may not be marked as the Hobbit Trail. Follow this to the beach, staying on the main trail and not veering off to the left or the right. This hike is a favorite of all sorts of people, some who freely take their clothing off, and some who leave odd arrangements of rocks and shells on the beach, or carve their inspirations into the face of the rock wall. This trail is considered sort of a "secret" trail among post-hippie cultures.

God, those pictures are all so vivid and brilliant. Is that the same digicam you've had for years? Did you do any tweaking? Wow...

It is the same cam, it just works WAY better in bright outdoor light. It has always taken great daytime outdoor pictures and lousy indoor pictures. The spots on the lens, for instance, never show up in daylight.

I didn't do anything special, just point and shoot. The awesomeness of these pictures is just luck.
