Previous Entry Share Next Entry

I just finished booking all the feature artists for the 2006 Porcupine Mountains Music Festival and you folks are the first people that I'm letting know!

We are pleased to be featuring Rory Block (four time WC Handy Award Winner), Willy Porter, and Melissa Ferrick!

Weekend passes are on sale for 25% off until March 20th. Get them now at our website or by calling 800-344-5355!

http://www.porkiesfestival.org/

We have also booked: The Ember Swift Trio, Hammel on Trial, Rachael Davis, Conga Se Menne, Buster's Dream, and Rory and the Roach Band. We still have MANY slots left to book so look forward to even more great bands being in the Porkies for the festival!

I don't know about you but I'm REALLY looking forward to spending a blue sky summer day listening and dancing to great music and watching the sunset over Lake Superior.

Could we convince Motorhead to do an acoustic set?

That's an awesome lineup so far...it's totally worth the ticket price for what listed already. Any chance that Ember and Lyndell can get more than an hour? Speaking of which, they're playing in Madison on 4/27 and I was going to go. Would you be interested?

Ember and Lyndell and their drummer will be playing multiple full sets throughout the weekend. Details are still not set on that so they're only on the schedule for their main slot.

damn. I heart Rory Block. But I'll be in SF.. so, I guess I'm not *really* complaining, but, well, I'm glad to know that things can happen in the midwest that make me wish I could be there. :)

People have been known to attend from SF. erinmack is considering it. Maybe you and her and arun251 and jane837 and others can form some kind of SF bloc and travel en masse. :)

God, Zach, I would love to go to this! Some of those photos from last year are gorgeous, and it's been too long since I've been back to the U.P. Maybe if I can find a cheap flight to Chicago come August, it could happen.

You should totally get Aerin Tedesco to play since she's local and all! Also, a friend of mine from Bellingham (WA) is a folk musician who might be interested. His name's Robert Blake (like the actor!); he's done a lot of Northwest regional festivals and visited me while I lived in the U.P. and really liked it, so he might be easily persuaded into returning!

Yah, I know Aerin (and Andrea) and have booked her for venue gigs before. She works right down the street from me. There's a ton of Chicago peeps (I just ran into Ripley Caine the other day while out for a walk) that I'd love to book but we have limitted slots and a TON of much more local (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan) artists (with local draw) to consider. The festival is booked by committee and I've already spent most of my mana in getting the artists that I most want.

We're also looking to include a lot of diverse musical styles and we've already got chick singers with guitars WELL covered. That is the genre that would be the WHOLE festival if I had my way, but luckily, I don't.

Right on.

Well (festival or no festival!), if you're interested in hearing some good punk/blues influenced political folk, go check Robert out at Chicago's No Exit Cafe on the 25th. He's playing with a guy named Louis Ledford and a gal named Rachel Ries...I'm not familiar with either of 'em, but I'm told they're good.

Check out a few songs...

We have received a LOT of submissions and are still reviewing them. You could send a CD and press kit to me and I'll add it to the batch for committee review. We will retain your info for consideration for next year if we don't pick you this year.
