07 Days, 08 Hours, 50 Minutes, 31 Seconds.

Alright it sounds like Chicago is the place to be for Serenity. How can I turn down the chance to see duck2ducks in Hack/Slash, to give giant congratulations to boannan on the wonderful news she hasn't told you about yet, and maybe even to sneak a peak at bdar in Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind.

I would like to see this movie as many times as possible with as many people as possible and I would like to eat delicious food and watch Firefly and watch it again with Directors Commentary turned on and read the comic book and watch the movie again.

Who is with me? If you are on the fence maybe you should read some reviews.

Current Mood: anxiousanxious

I think I like the music you're listening to. Or at least its name. ;)

I wish I could make it for the Chicago stuff but I can't handle the travel with that timing. I wish you lots of really fun times though.

Heh. That's the Firefly theme's refrain... And yeah, it's really really bitchin'.

I can't concieve of not going to see this movie.

However, I also can't concieve that it'll be happening in Champaign or Chicago, either. :P Oh well. I'm sure we'll get a chance to watch a bootleg of it together (and of course a DVD when it comes out. We're talking timing, not assmuchery here.).

I'd expect nothing less from the one who posed with Fray comics! What a fine choice.

Hey, I live here, let me know what the plan is, and tentatively count on me going to the movie at least. I don't make much money, but I'll, um, not eat for a few days.

For the record: Chicago is for assholes. CU is the place to be.

Additionally for the record: TMLMTBGB is also for assholes. As I feel required to mention every time they are mentioned, you should know that those sons of bitches are thieverous bastards. THIEVES. BASTARDS. DO NOT SUPPORT THEM. SET THEM ON FIRE INSTEAD.

Okay. What the hell did we do?

And how can we make up for it, without being set on fire?

Well, to qualify, I think overreacting is quite funny. I don't actually want to set y'all on fire.

That said: some two years ago or so my friend Alex auditioned for TML. He got a call back, was asked to bring in and perform a piece that he'd written. He got along well with everyone there, they all seemed to like him and his piece, but he didn't get the part. That's not a big deal, things shake out that way sometimes.

But when he came back a few months later to watch the show, none of the cast would say hello or make any eye contact. Halfway through the performance they used his piece. Without asking, without accreditation, without thanks. In my book that's really shady, given the claim that "each short play is written by a performer".

When did this occur, and what was the title of the piece (as it may have appeared in the program)? All these things are archived, so I'd like to take a look and see what the deal was, as well as who the offending parties might be.

That's not cool at all, and I can understand your being upset. That's never supposed to happen in any capacity--we don't solicit outside the ensemble, so it wouldn't have been kosher even if he had been asked and accredited.

Did Alex say anything to the performing ensemble, or send an email?

This was about two years ago. I really only have a time reference for it relative to things in my own life, so it all came to pass between March '03 and September '03. That's sounds about right, though I may be off by a month or two. I never knew the name of the piece, and from what I could tell Alex took a "just walk away" approach to it afterwards. In all likelihood I'm more crotchety about it than he ever was.

Do you at least know the basics of the play? What it was about? What the staging was? I need something more to go on. I'd like to get to the bottom of this, because otherwise, unfortunately, I find your and your friend's accusation hard to swallow.

Not only does it require me to believe that one of our number blatantly stole your friend's audition piece and had the gall to perform it for at least 300 people, possibly more, in a microcosmic theatre community where such a thing would be bound to get back to Alex in one way or another (to be fair, I don't know everybody who was there in '03) but it requires at least four others, and possibly more, to go along with the stealing of a piece that all of them saw performed at audition.

If I'm coming off as a hardass about this, I think I have the right--by proxy, you've accused me of being a thief. You didn't write "don't support the 2003 Neo-Futurists, who are thieving sonsabitches," you wrote the declaration in the present tense, and I am a Neo-Futurist in that tense.

You certainly do have the right to be a hardass, and I certainly don't blame you for it. The fact of the matter is that the only evidence I have to run on is the Alex's word. That's it - I don't have a description of the piece, staging, anything but the story that I was told.

He is, however, a friend, and I'm more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I could be totally wrong, full of shit, and my lack of hard evidence certainly could indicate that. As far as I'm concerned, though, Alex's word is all I've needed to know. If that means this is to be discounted completely, well, that's life. It isn't as though it hasn't happened before.

If this comes across to you as having jumped to conclusions, throwing out unsupported accusations, again, I don't blame you. Any old crank can say any old thing on the internet. You're right in that I have laid out general accusations that by extension include you. Do I think that you personally are a godamsombitch? I don't know you enough to make that call, and I generally believe that people are good until proven otherwise. I do appreciate that you've heard me out and are interested in addressing the situation.

All I can say is that my understanding of the Neo-Futurists in general clashes with Alex's story, and my trust in Alex therefore leads me to question the Neo-Futurists in general. When I have a chance to speak with him again I'll see what kind of information he can give me, and I can return to this at that point. Until then, you are completely within your rights to disbelieve all of this, and again, I wouldn't blame you for it.

Thank you for being reasonable. That's really all I wanted.

It basically disturbs me either way--if it's true, it goes against everything I know about these people, and if it's not, there's still somebody out there saying it is. The third possibility, of course, is that it's a misunderstanding all around.

Have a good rest of your weekend. I feel comfortable walking away from this for the moment. Thanks again.
