WOW! I've suspected this one was false all my life and TONS of do gooders have given me the dirtiest looks for my steadfast refusal to put my pop-top in their baggie. "What do you HATE PEOPLE ON DIALYSIS?!"

In my home town the boyscouts collected them, the schools collected them, churches collected them. It is amazing how people can get duped by stuff they haven't fact checked at all. I mean you'd think someone would figure out where to trade those in for the "free dialysis minutes" BEFORE starting the collection drive.

Wow, there's a container in my office for Ronald McDonald House to collect those things. And it's an official container with the logo on it and everything. So what this makes me realize is that all they're going to do is recycle them for minimal value (instead of recycling whole cans, which would be a big, bulky hassle), and what they get in return is a ton of free advertising and good PR.

Fascinating.

Yah, considering that they probably actually LOSE money printing and distributing the little cups and transporting the tabs back to recycling centers there is definitely no actual direct charity benefit from those.

Just imagine how little money they'd make if they were collecting pennies. Now divide that amount by 33 (assuming a penny takes up the same amount of space as a poptab and that 100 poptabs is worth $.03)! Ugh.

And people have been duped about this for over 20 years! So weird.

yay! free fuck tabs! (the only thing that aluminum tabs were ever actually good for were junior high promises that no one yet had the cajones to keep.)

Hehe.

I was only ever vaguely aware of that particular tradition.

Ooh someone knew of that tradition other than me. At least my school wasn't the only dirty-minded one! :) I think it was junior high or so for us too.
