12:15 pm - Serenity! Vegas! Next Week!

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

UPDATE Las Vegas is now officially sold out. There are some rumors that more tickets will at some point be made available at some theaters. Those are JUST very vague rumors so I don't trust them one bit. I have only the one extra ticket and ke_jia is likely to use it BUT he isn't sure. So please continue to let me know if you are interested...there's always a chance that ke_jia won't be able to go OR that more tickets will become available OR that we can score some Vegas tickets for you through other channels OR maybe you just want to come hang out on the road trip and don't care about missing the movie.

UPDATE Cheaptickets.com shows round trip flights from Chicago (or Milwaukee) to Vegas for under $250 leaving May 4th and returning May 6th. I'd be QUITE happy to do the flights instead of driving, we can park the rental car (which I'll have anyway) at the airport.

Holy crap. There is going to be a preview showing of an unfinished version of Serenity (the Firefly movie) on May 5th at 10pm. By the time I found out about this all the tickets were sold out except for one location. So, randomly, I bought 2 tickets. For the Las Vegas showing.

I'm going to be in Ontonagon, MI at 7pm on Monday, May 2nd with a rental car with unlimitted milage. The showing is in Las Vegas, NV at 10pm on Thursday, May 5th . The drive is 30 hours (2,036 miles). This can be done but only with a partner in crime (or 2 or 3).

I hereby throw it open to your combined creativity to figure out how I'm going to do this. Who wants to join me? How will we meet? Should we drive the whole thing or drive to an airport and catch a flight? Will you come up to Ontonagon with me on Sunday night? Will you show up in Champaign at the car rental place to get added as an official second driver?

I am very willing to subsidize costs on this thing (e.g. you don't have to provide half the gas money, or half the car rental money). I'd appreciate you kicking in what you can but please please please if you are broke ass poor but can otherwise do this thing let me know. I'd rather pay for everything than not go and I need someone to come with if I'm going to go. What I really need is someone to help with the driving and provide company. I'd like to be able to work on my laptop from the passenger seat as much as possible.

So which of you crazy people is obsessed enough about Firefly and flexible enough in your work schedule to join me?

If this doesn't work out, I'll just be out the $20 I spent on the 2 tickets. Who knows maybe I can sell them. Let me know if you'd like to buy the tickets from me, at cost ($10 each). I got the tickets in electronic form so they'll be very easy and legal to transfer to you.

Proposals accepted immediately.

I can go. I have tests May 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, but I get done the 5th at 7pm. And then I dont have to be anywhere until the 6th, when i'm supposed to go tubing in Missouri.

;)
Good luck though.

Sorry Zach, sounds like a good time, but I can't. But if you wanna stop in Madison as a halfway point, you know you are always welcome...

Check out Cheaptickets.com and see if they have any last-minute flights to Vegas.

Wow. You are one dedicated fan.

Dear god man! I would so be up for this. Alas, I was able to score a ticket for the Chicago screening.

I almost regret it now. Almost.

Where you on IM last night? I checked before placing the order, but I didn't see you.

Well if there's any way at all that I can score a Chicago ticket, I'll definitely cancel my Vegas insanity and go with ya'll. :)

If you know anyone with a Chicago ticket that they can't use, I'll pay top dollar!

Oh, beat me to it.

The whedonesque posters who had tickets pointed to the Chicago Firefly Yahoo group as a good place to hook up with Chicago ppl.

Hmmm. Of course no one else in my immediate circle is seeing it with me. I was the only one awake at 2am. Sob. All else being equal (and I'm actually free to go), I'd prefer to do the road trip/hang with you for a few days option. And traveling into the west, for the first time, to see it seems awful poetical.

Won't know enough to make a firm commitment on the 'free to go' score until friday afternoon, dagnabbit.

Note the new flight option posted in my post. $250 round trip from O'Hare May 4th-May 6th. Definitely kills the poetry (I'm still all up for the road tripping if we can make the logistics work) but might make scheduling easier.

How do you feel about it possibly just being the two of us and about taking significant driving shifts in the rocky mountains? It's interstate driving so it isn't THAT bad.

I think we can do it. I have to warn you that I MUST MUST MUST spend time on this trip doing my job on my laptop though. So I won't be a very good conversational partner while you're driving.

It sure would be nice if we could recruit a 3rd and/or 4th person (people who may be willing to not see the movie (if we can't get more tickets) but just come along for the ride). I SHOULD have bought 4 tickets instead of 2. Ugh.

I'd be a terrible conversational partner while I'm driving, so that works nicely.

Unless you think we'd be dodging boulders every three miles, I'm cool w/ driving over the Rockies. Hell, half the point would be getting the opportunity to finally see them. I didn't get altitude sickness from driving over the appalachians to DC back in the day, but the Rockies are a different animal altogether, obviously.

I can't commit either way until Friday. If the plane tickets need to be purchased before then, you should probably snatch 'em.

Unless, of course, you uncover ticket(s) to the Chicago screening!

With some minor fiddling this entry could be mistaken for a perl script.

I'm really liking the idea of having a car when we get there and I'm really liking the idea of road tripping, so I'm going to avoid buying any plane tickets until it is absolutely neccessary (even if that means that I end up failing to buy them).

Arun is vaguely considering joining us.

Anyway, no rush for commitment. I've got the rental car and the movie tickets either way. We can work out the rest at the last minute.

One time I road tripped to Philly for an Adanm Brodsky CD release party. We drove out on Friday, hung out on Saturday, and drove back on Sunday. It was great! That worked so well, why not try it again. :)

I wouldn't do it if I wasn't ALREADY going to have an unlimitted miles rental car for a week, so there's a little bit of sanity there.

Instead of paying for parking a rental car at the airport, some rental car agencies offer one way rentals. That's what we did to drive from O'Hare to Champaign after we got back from Europe. I believe that the company was Budget.

Conrad and I so wish we could go to Vegas with you for the show, but alas, he needs to be near for when his grandma goes into surgery. :( Ah, well. Sept 30 will have to be good enough for us. Man, I wish I had known about this much much sooner!

Well Vegas is sold out now anyway, so you'd probably have as hard a time getting tickets for both of you as getting them in Chicago since I've only got the one.

Maybe if ke_jia goes with me, you could buy his ticket and score another one somewhere.

I roadtripped out to LA with two friends last April for Coachella. It was a blast, and splitting gas costs made it cheaper than flying. Before that trip, I'd never been further west than central Iowa. Seeing the Rockies and driving across the Mojave were great experiences. Having three people made it easy to take five-hour shifts, so we drove 15 hours/day, stopping in Denver on the way out there and in the middle of Nebraska on the way back.

Unfortunately, spontaneously leaving town in the middle of next week would wreak havoc on my school schedule (my work schedule would be fine, oddly enough). Otherwise, I'd be more than happy to make the trip.

Blah, I could never marry a man who lets web server software clean up after his unfinished header messes.

That subroutine won't always be there to take care of you, you know.
